NO NEED TO POST...

1

YEP, I just don't feel the need to post much lately... no one leaves comments, I haven't been recieving much feedback or demand for the blogs... but it's ok, I don't expect it... I have been grinding... Yep, true story... I grind, because I feel that is the only way you can get what you deserve... and that's through grinding and hard work...

Lately I haven't had much time to sit down and think about how to be insightful, but maybe right now I can inspire the next person to get on his or her job...

Now when I say I have been grinding, I have been grinding! The end opf the year is coming and I was supposed to be somewhere firmly in the industry through my goals and planning... It's the start of the forth quarter and I am so far into all of this it is crazy... I can't blab about everything now, but here are a few things... and I do mean a few...

I have been grinding alot lately C.B.L., Freck Billionaire's label... I am head of E-Marketing and everything over there... I been really seeing things grow over there... I'm developing some real positive situations with Sickamore, all I wanted was an interview and now I might be working with him... ya dig? I'm helping develop an online magazine... That's gonna be crazy when it blooms... Every artist I'm working with is close to realisng a project, (Like always...) and that has been great, I need the support for them... Shouts out to Shayla G of FNF... Hopefully me and her make some magic... She is real cool people... I have been doing the graphics, covers and flyers... grind, grind, grind... and then, Obama, Fabulous, Young Prezzy & V.C.A., Ozone Magazine, Miami, Z-Ro, Str8lace and a bunch more... It's crazy... put all that together however you want to until you see what happens... HA! 09 in mine... and whoever else I decide to share it with...

I think I am going to put together a mixtape of all the music around me right now soon... pass it to your friends... and as far as the posts, I might have to pause them... I only did this blog to get on my grind, and now that it is working, I might have to come back to this when I actually am on... maybe through twitter or something else in the future...

Holla @ ya boy... More coming soon tho, just fillers...

IN THE MEAN TIME... Who's To Blame? {"SWAGGER LIKE US" POST ON ITS WAY...}

1

The other day on the XXL Scratch Blog, there was post entitled "The Biggest Problem In Rap Music Right Now Are The Rappers Themselves". I enjoyed what it had said... Read it... Comment on my page though...

"I mix with a lot of different crowds and have a wide variety of friends- executives, producers, journalists, web designers, publicists, engineers, etc- and the one thing I gather from almost all people is this: They HATE rappers. They HATE doing just about anything with rappers, period. They hate talking to them, hate working with them in the studio, hate interviewing them, hate promoting their records, hate publicizing them as clients, hate just about everything having to do with the artists themselves."

From being worse party-toting rhetoric-spitters than McCain, to feeling some sort of weird sense of pop culture entitlement, to pushing a cookie-cutter creative agenda, rappers got it all wrong. And I can't say I disagree. I've had the (mis)fortune to work with some rappers before on projects, and can seldom say I've walked away from the deal feeling like things worked out the way I wanted to see it happen. For a number of reasons. I'll expand on them below:

A) Creative:
From a creative standpoint, most rappers are corny and stagnant. At this point, hip hop is nearly 40 years old, it's going through a mid-life crisis (and isn't really aging well). By the time most rappers get to any sort of measurable success these days, they've been visually force-fed the culture for decades, and have layers of pre-conceived notions of what exactly a rapper is, and what exactly a rapper's image should be. Part of this can be blamed on the slow creative bleeding that has occurred over the history of the genre. What was once a subculture built upon individuality and creativity has become a market force used to sell anything from crappy yuppy clothing to shampoo that seemingly only white teenage girls would ever use. Creativity, individuality, and expression are no longer the benchmarks of an emcee. When rappers are afraid to do something different and unique, the entire art form suffers (for evidence of this clash and it's results, see the Kanye Vs. 50 battle of last year).

B) Budget:
Believe it or not, your favorite rapper is probably broke. Well, not quite, but unless he's signed to a major, or has some serious label money behind him, he probably doesn't have much of a promotion and design budget. That means it's hard to find good creative willing to do the job unless they're fans or are just doing it out of love and portfolio work. Either way, it doesn't end up going as well as it could have gone had you, (your label, your spouse, your dad, or whoever is paying for it) ponied up the cash to have your whole thing done right. And not just the album cover. I'm talking promo, packaging, music videos, bios, press kits, admats, every aspect of your presentation. Most dudes don't think that far ahead, or are too busy maintaining other areas of their image. Put down the Moet, and pick up the invoice.

C) Professionalism:
Big Surprise Alert: Rappers can be unprofessional. Sounds like some obvious shit, and for the most part it is, but I'm constantly shocked at how difficult it can be to do work for rappers. I'm not even talking about doing the actual work either, I mean it's impossible to get things you need on time, get feedback, just go through the process in an efficient manner. Timelines are either hilariously short due to horrible planning, or seem to drag on forever (I have one client right now that's been dragging on for 5 months and I haven't even made anything for him yet). Assets are either crap (low-res, done with a shitty photographer, have horrible lighting, or make you look like a hobbit), come two weeks late, or don't show up at all. It can sometimes take weeks to get a call back for revisions, and forget about getting any sort of direction other than whatever CD covers they have in their trunk that they like. Granted, it is the designer's job to try and smooth all this out, create a process, make sure the assets are in place, make things run smoothly, but most of the time it just isn't worth it (see point B).

Why are you going to subject yourself to working with an unforgiving, unorganized person on a project that will be hell to go through for little money resulting in cookie-cutter work. At least Corporate America has their money right.

Sorry for putting the wack rapper pic on blast... Whoever it is... You just look... well wack... or should we say, to be politically correct, Stereotypical... ya dig? If anyone agrees, leave a comment and subscribe...

Also, Mek's mixtape is coming soon, Dza's mixtape is coming soon, and guess what? ADAY IS COMING WITH SOME HEAT SOON AS WELL... we can't wait... Leave comments on that... even if you are the listed above... O yeah, I'm still famous nowdays... more on that coming soon... I see y'all reading, thanks... keep it coming...

INDUSTRY 101: HOW TO GET SIGNED OR MAKE IT FAR IN THE INDUSTRY!

66

OK, so it's about that time where I actually place some knowledge on here for my visitors... Lately, this blog has been all about me... Now while I think that's interesting, I still want to teach something to someone... Help the next man out... That's what I'm here for... And now that I'm FAMOUS, why can't I? And what is the main thing you expect to learn from an A&R? How to get signed ofcourse... Holla at ya boy...

Now first off, It takes talent, marketability and a little bit of luck to get signed. But even then, you are not guaranteed fame, money and success. Now here are a few things I have learned will help you get a deal or become noticed at anything in this industry. Now there is no guaranteed way to get a record deal or whatever, although if you’re genuinely really good at what you do, you seriously get on your grind, there’s a good chance you’ll get some kind of deal eventually. And also REMEMBER, when it comes to getting signed and becoming successful, timing is everything. Unfortunately being in the right place at the right time happens mostly by chance but you can at least maximise your chances by doing everything you can. So with that being said, Here are a few tips to help take you to the top...

1. Make good music that is well written and can be marketed. Try to be the best at whatever you do, however you do it.

2. Know and accept that you can ONLY depend on YOURSELF the most. This doesn't mean don't have a team and be a loaner, because I love love teams, and two heads are better than one, but you can only truly DEPEND on yourself the most.

3. Practice regularly. You need to be well rehearsed at whatever it is that you wanna do, from business to rapping to beats. Practice is the road to perfect... and better yet, Perfect practice makes perfect.

4. Save your money. Everything costs money... And it alwasy helps to have your own for anything... People really respect that, sometimes even before raw talent.

5. Get known and respected in your area locally first. It's about more than just playing a gig, You have to develop a following. Develop a local following and then branch out into more regional shows.

6. Start looking around for an experienced manager/ business partner to help you get started. An experienced manager will probably not be your best friend, your dad, your guitar teacher but someone who understands the ins and outs of the industry, or atleast has a true hustler's heart. This should be someone you can really trust and lean on when times get hard.

7. Learn how to make your own money. If you can do this it lets labels know that you can make them money.

8. No matter how good you are at what you do, Not everyone is going to like what you do or respect what you do. And sometimes, just because they respect what you do, it doesn't mean that they like what you do. And vice-versa.

9. Don't sign contracts without careful consideration and legal advice. Get up on your Judge Milian, that shit really happens in music too.

10. Develop your talents around people that you trust to give you honest, credible feedback. Just because someone is honest to you about what you do, that doesn't mean that they are credible and know what really works.

11. Record an impressive demonstration of your talents and, if you have to, pay to have a professional package for your presentation.

12. Image is everything especially if you want to be noticed by the majors. You want as many things to work in your favor and this includes having an interesting and inticing look. Arrange a wardrobe that looks marketable.

13. Avoid drugs. Word travels and artists with drug problems usually cost more money than artists without issues. Labels want a good return on their investment these days, not headaches. (Sometimes though, weed doesn't count, but you would be surprised at how many artists don't do drugs.)

14. Playing shows isn't a guarantee but exposure is never a bad thing. You could possibly be signed without ever playing a show but chances are slim. Additionally, having some popularity will help you negotiate a better deal with a label when you are signed.

15. And don't forget... Timing is everything. Unfortunately being in the right place at the right time happens mostly by chance but you can at least maximise your chances by doing everything you can. So with that being said, Here are a few tips to help take you to the top...

And there you go, another list from your's truly... Now if you solely do music you may also want to do the following to help your chances in getting discovered as soon as possible.

- You should have professional photos taken, as well as video if possible. The sooner the better. Make sure they are easily accesible if anyone comes looking for you. Now days, a good video goes a long way.

- Make a press pack which consists of a photo, your demo (printed) a biography of you and some interesting facts, press clippings, and any other impressive media around you.

- Find the address of any record label your music would feel home with and send them a press pack. Also email addresses and phone numbers will help you get attention on your material being sent in, just don't bug them, but make sure you're persistant, these are very busy people. (Make sure they accept unsolicited demos).

- Most A&Rs have seen hundreds of acts and are consequently fairly critical. They have a mental checklist when they see you play live; Do you have strong songs? Can you sing/play/perform well? Are you contemporary/do you fit into a current scene or niche? Do you have that X factor, or IT (sex appeal, star quality, massive charisma etc...)? And above all... Will your music sell, alot? If the answer to at least 4 out of 5 of these questions is yes, then you’re in with a chance, especially if it’s the latter three!

Now the common misconception is that all matters are solved once you get signed to a major label or record company... Hahaha... This is far from being true and is proven in so many recent cases. We aren't even going to get into all of that... That's another post, another day...

Have any questions or more tips? Holla at me, leave me a comment... a few comments...

How to Become Famous

31

OK, as everyone now knows... I have finally obtained my Sickamore interview... thank you, thank you... hold your applause until the end... But yeah, alot of people know that I wanted to interview him, but they probably don't know why... Simply put, Sick can make you FAMOUS... shiiiiiiit... ya dig?

Sickamore is the CEO of Famous Firm and until recently Sickamore was A&R over at Atlantic Records... Dude can defiantly make virtually any artist famous, if they deserve it... I was trying to obtain that knowledge as well... But after the interview I found out that I didn't have that knowledge and I probably won't talk to Sick for awhile,(Maybe a few months) till I make it...

So you know what the Free-Hundred Million Dollar Blogger does? He comes up with his own details of how to become famous, (mixed with a little research) and then I had applied it towards Hip-Hop... Because that's what we are all here for right? Enjoy the information... And I see people have been leaving comments lately... keep up the feedback and the love, and help me get my widget out there... pause, please...

Keep in mind that can become famous in many different ways and it's important that you remember to try your hardest and put forth the most effort towards any path you choose to take. There are famous artists, producers, businessmen, designers, DJs, video vixens... and now goons and weed carriers. No matter what field of interest you select, it will require training, experience and most of all persistence to become famous.

Now here are a few generic techniques that I have come up with that would apply in many situations for this music industry:

1) Be the best at something or the first to do something. Research and find something that no one has ever done, and do it... well! It could be lyrically, through song content, sales, making money, or now, SWAG. Look around and see what someone famous is famous for, and learn to do it better. Now because the game is so saturated, this may seem like one of the hardest things to do... But if you keep at it, it could work... *My Favorite*
Examples: Lupe Fiasco, Jay Z, Lil Wayne and DJ Khaled. (I would say Soulja Boy here as far as pioneering... but I don't wanna hear ya'lls mouths... not like ya'll comment anyways...)

2) Try to be the worst at something. William Hung became famous by being the worst singer on American Idol. He sings so badly that people flock to see him perform. I would never suggest this, but it works... Not everyone agrees on these type of artists... but a few are known as the worst...
Examples: Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti, Jim Jones and Who? Mike Jones. (Although I feel like each of these artists have made a contribution to the charts, they are kind of the worst rappers on top...)

3) Being radically different will make people notice, and you in turn will become famous. Now this method worked for the Cool Kids, but now we have all these other kids forcing themselves into being different... Just be you. Like i said, there are many ways of being famous.
Examples: Cool Kids, Eminem, T-Pain and Kanye West.

4) Be in the right, or wrong place at the right time. Now know that just by being in the right place, at the right time, could help you become famous, maybe only for an hour, but it involves the least preparation, talent or skill. It's dumb luck, but always be ready... It's up to you how you stretch those 15 mins to an hour and so on. Try not to only end up like the dude who saved that lady from the railroad or subway or whatever. We do not remember his name now, but at the time of the happening, everyone knew him, he was televised, and became instantly, and briefly famous.
Examples: Bagledash, Bently Fonsworth, Lil Chuckie and DJ Vlad... Trilla!

5) Suck a famous dick. Now I wouldn't suggest this, but it works... Now this does take a litte dedication and talent depending on how famous you want to be... Let's be real, people get sucked up daily anyways.
Examples: Lloyd Banks, Karine "Superhead" Steffans, Monica Lewinsky and alot of these wack ass rappers. (Regardless, Banks is one of my favorite rappers.)

6) Die... It may not sound fun, but Pac made 15 Million last year... and he has been dead for more than ten years...
Examples: Biggie, Tupac, Big L and DMC.

7) Get a co-sign from somebody with a stable position in the game. Sometimes being signed to a profitable, upstanding record label just isn't enough. People love to love what famous people like... and if someone famous likes you, so will the people... and after that its all up to you on what you do.
Examples: Young Jeezy, Currency, Asher Roth and Just Blaze.

8) Commit a crime, snitch and then get out to tell a different story... Or, commit a crime, don't snitch and never get out to tell your story. This is real because everyone likes a story... Fact or Fiction. We like hearing about real people doing things we would never do to the extent of getting caught.
Examples: Pimp C, Shyne, DMX and Tony Yayo.

9) Be related to anyone in the industry. Not really sure how this one actually works, you just have to be related to anyone in the industry... Most likely this works just like the co-sign tip, with less preparation and skill. Although some do actually have talent.
Examples: Tyga, Cory Gunz, Team Blackout and Solange.

10) Get someone else famous. This goes into managing, ghostwriting, sometimes producing, journaling or whatever you can think of. The more people you make famous, the more you will be famous... It's an automatic co-sign
Examples: Sickamore, alot of djs, magazines and Ghost Da Hustla next...

Choosing one of the above paths and applying it in the direction you choose is sure to bring you fame. Now there are other ways you could get famous out here... but it's up to you to figure it out.

Remember, don't follow your dreams - chase them. They are not gonna come to you... My Uncle Darius once told me you must be always proactive if you are trying to obtain your goals in this industry. Not a day goes by that I don't do a thing that's not music or business related.

If you need any help getting the word about you out, use a famous platform like http://myspace.com, http://youtube.com, http://mytaltopia.com, or http://famous.tm to showcase your skills.

tips:

- When you try to contact famous people in an attempt to get them interested in your area of expertise, do not over bug them or continue to communicate with them if they do not respond, But be persistent.

- Contact anyone you can think of that can get to any type of audience and interest them in helping you get the word out about what you do. Ask your fans to refer you to their friends and family. Give them your business cards, links, product or CD and ask them to pass it around. Whatever it takes, get creative.

- Have a genuine conviction that you deserve to be famous. Envisage benefits to the society from your fame and try to highlight and project them in turn. Do not be deterred by resistance to your efforts. Be brave and assertive. Famous is something you earn to keep. (If you are not born with it.)

- Try to identify urgent or dire needs of people or demands of people and try to work on any one or more of them; depending upon your genuine interest. You may record a track about something you see missing on the radio or on the shelves, If you see a new way to make money, find out the best way to do it before someone else does, email to blogs, TV channels, write to websites with similar interests all of that. You can do it if you GRIND.

- When the going gets tough, don't give up!

*Warning*

- Remember that it is easy to become famous but much harder to become well known for good reasons. Do not try to jump off a building or a bridge, because that type of fame will only be short lived, and you will probably be killed and you will not be able to enjoy the fame.

- It takes a great deal of patience and researching your area of expertise that you are interested in to become well known. Do not expect it to happen overnight.

Real talk alert... so leave a few comments on what it is... add this ya'lls myspace blogs... bulletins... Facebook... what ever it is... get the word out there about this blog... Sickamore interview coming soon...

-GHOST DA HUSTLA

P.S. - you can add acting crazy and hating... but not to my list... that's just lame...

Waiting... (More Personal Trial #1)

0

Current Song in Rotation - Charles Hamilton - Do What You Love

Quote of the day - Dj Young Prezzy AIM away message - "Fuck dreams, set goals, get money!"

Daily Goal - To get through the day without quitting my job and leaving to an Ozone event.

Most Valued Info Learned Today - People always change, even when they say they will never change... for better or for worse. (And they might not even know it...)

Blog of the day - I'm sitting here at work trying to see what I should blog about to be more personal... and then this Charles Hamilton song comes on... (the one in current rotation) and it just hits me... how about whatever is on my mind right now while I'm here at work... here it is...

- I was just reading an interview on Charles Hamilton when his song started playing ironically through my phone... (go listen to the song) and then I started watching a Kanye West Tour video... (Yes, all at work... I'm sooo slick... I think, they might be watching my comp now...) but anyways... I was thinking how if I were Kanye I would have released a Glow In The Dark Tour Movie in Imax... nationwide, similar to Miley Cyrus or Hannah Montana (same people)... and a custom high top Nike Dunk with the Glow In The Dark logo on it ... a Dual tone black sneaker lined with neon thread and glow in the dark trim... and a shutter glasses set... all at once... just so if I was Kanye, I could see my stans lined up to the movies like a Star Wars film... that would be crazy if I put that together... Hit me up Kanye... real talk, still waiting to play connect four or battleship... But yeah, so I'm waiting on Ye's Imax tour and his Dunks to match...

- Next, I'm waiting on the day I get to quit my job and solely pursue Music... I love production, I love handling music business with a passion... I just find it some what annoying to keep up with with a regular 9-5 and this industry... especially if the 9-5 is from 3:30 - 12... lame... plus over time... my sched is way off...

- Last but not least, I can't wait till I can go back to school for this music again... I swear I loved college... but I'm broke... as far as a college career at least... I'm going to be back in that classroom soon, I pray... even if I'm teaching, or a guest speaker...

Random words -

> Song of the day just turned into SPACESHIP by KANYE WEST...

> Gage new song is WACK. I think it's called Gage - So Eazy To Do This feat. Gambino. It's just Gage acting like every other rapper hotter than him, and he's not even changing his voice... wack... And I had heard so many good things about him as a rapper...

> Charles Hamilton's Sonic the Hedgehog philosophy is my new adopted way of thinking about the game... it was already my favorite game as well... ask my wifey... Check his interview out at HipHopdx.com

> I still just want to take of and practice Parkour.

> I need a Lupe Fiasco mixtape series... 3 Volumes... right now... new, not 9/11... I need something new and free...

> Mixtape Messiah 4 will be ass... No originals anymore... just verses of the same damn voice... and I'm a BIG Chamillionaire fan... I will still download and support the tape tho...

Holla @ me... Leave a comment, Tell a friend, Pass around the widget... holla @ me about that business... beats... anything... Shouts out to Dj Bootleg on his mixtape release... and I hate every one at the Ozone events... but I wish I was hating myself...
